Yesterday, the 2.nd of January, the brave people of Pungesti joined again for an action to show that their resistance is still alive and kicking.
They wanted to go to the mayor’s office in the main village of the municipality, to spoil the party of the mayor and of the councilors who were inside and make them remember that they will not tolerate fracking. The riot police prevented them to take the short road along the asphalt road, therefore they climbed the surrounding hills and arrived to the destination one hour and a half later, even though the distance along the road was only one kilometer. On their way to the main village of the Pungesti municipality, they have made a stop in front of the Chevron site, a place which has been under a huge surveillance after the 7-th of December, when the fence was pulled down. The workers at the Chevron site ran away to the cars in panic. They are obviously afraid of the peaceful protesters.
Despite the martial law ruling in the area, despite the intimidation and the terror the riot police used to silence the people of Pungesti, they are still resisting in the bravest way possible.
Here is a video of the small protest in fron of the Chevron site, on the way to the town hall of Pungesti, where people peacefully protested for half an hour.
